Adult Education

At Pearson we have worked with leaders in the correctional education field to identify the unique needs of students and teachers in correctional education and we understand:

  • Adult Literacy Programs. Literacy is the cornerstone of education, and Pearson provides the basic building blocks from which adult students may begin or continue their educational journey.
    • High Interest, Low Reading Level Materials: For those students testing below the Grade 6 or 7 levels in literacy function, Pearson offers additional skill-building components at adult interest levels. Our versatile offerings appeal to lower-level readers, while being stimulating and engaging.
    • Real World Context. Pearson has programs to support student learning and achievement in everyday work and life situations. Practical language and timely topics motivate adult students to master grammar along with speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. With programs such as Center Stage, Future, Exploring English, and Top Notch, your students will be able to expand upon their reading, language, and writing skills to support their English growth.
    • ELLs. Pearson offers a broad, cross-disciplinary selection of research-based content programs with integrated ELL support, core ELD/ESL programs, ELL-focused intervention, assessment, and professional development built upon best teaching practices.
    • Digital Solutions: Through such programs as WriteToLearn and ELLis, Pearson works with you to find digital solutions that work within internet-restricted environments, meaning circumstance need not dictate the quality of the learning experience.
  • Tools for continuing education. Pearson believes that knowledge is power, and we work with correctional institutions to instill that belief into their own education programs. Helping students to pass the GED, for example, can decrease recidivism and afford them the opportunity to be productive members of society, equipped with the educational tools they need to progress and succeed. Pearson provides online learning tools and content for inmates wishing to continue with learning and take the next step in their education.
    • GED® 2014 Readiness. Working with Pearson, institutions can provide students with the confidence and requisite knowledge they need to be successful on the 2014 Computer-Based GED® test, positioning them for continued education and career success.
    • MyFoundationsLab . MyFoundationsLab is a complete online mastery-based resource for assessing and remediating college- and career-readiness skills in reading, writing and mathematics. The system offers a rich environment of pre-built or customized assessments, personalized learning plans, and highly interactive learning activities that enable students to master skills at their own pace. Ideal for learners of various levels and ages, including continuing education or workforce readiness programs, myFoundationsLab provides the skill development students need in order to be successful in college level courses or careers.
  • Job training & vocational skill-building resources. At a certain level, simply providing instruction isn’t enough. Pearson believes in a well-rounded approach to education that brings learning full-circle, from the transfer of knowledge in a classroom or self-study setting, to the practice and implementation of new skills in order to prepare for a productive life after incarceration.  Partner with Pearson to help prepare students for whatever their next step may be.
